YES Plan

  1. Y.E.S. Plan – Solid Ground Electric offers membership in a yearly electrical safety plan. For the yearly membership price the homeowner receives a visit from our trained electrician who examines 21 points of safety in the home. Included in that visit is the service of supplying the batteries for and changing out the batteries in the home’s hard-wired smoke alarms. The homes electrical panel receives a visual examination to look for any discoloration on the bus bar. All electrical connections are tightened in the breaker panel. Accessible GFCI receptacles are tested. This plan has been recommended by the Fire Chief at the Philomath Fire Hall, Tom Phelps and the Alsea Fire Dept. Chief, George Foster. They both know the importance of regular examinations of electrical panels and devices and smoke detectors to help prevent serious loss of life and property.
  2. Tamper-Resistant receptacles – National Electrical Code requires that all new installation of power receptacles in homes be tamper-resistant style receptacles. We have a package plan that can be added to the YES membership that will upgrade an existing home’s receptacles to this safer style. This is especially recommended for families with small children.
  3. Upgrading Electrical Service Panels – If a home is over 30 years old, the electrical service panel should be examined by SGE and possibly be replaced. Over the years excessive loading can deteriorate breakers so that they cannot properly function.
  4. GFCI receptacles are supposed to be tested yearly. The National Electrical Code requires that GFCIs be installed if a power outlet is within 6 ft. of a water source, such as the kitchen sink. ALL bathroom and exterior power receptacles must be GFCI protected. GFCI stands for ground fault circuit interruptor.
  5. Motion Sensor Lighting – These should be considered as a deterrent to vandalism and theft.
